AI-assisted Human Decision Audit
Independent review of consequential decisions formed with AI involvement.
AI can contribute to the question being asked, the evidence being considered and the recommendation presented for approval.
Life Laboratory examines the documented process behind a human decision: how it took shape, what supported it and how people reviewed and challenged it.
Three areas of review
Question formation
How the decision question developed, which assumptions entered the framing and which options were considered or excluded.
Evidence and alternatives
Whether important claims can be traced to sources, how uncertainty and conflicting evidence were handled, and whether alternatives received consideration.
Human challenge and authority
What review actually took place, and whether the responsible people had the information, time, expertise and authority to question, revise or reject the recommendation.
When this audit may help
The audit may be appropriate when AI-generated analysis, summaries or recommendations have materially informed a significant decision—and the organisation needs a clearer account of the reasoning behind it.
The engagement focuses on a defined decision or decision process. Its suitability depends on the question, available evidence and access to relevant participants.
How the review works
The agreed review may include decision papers, source material, relevant prompts and outputs, drafts, review comments, approval records and interviews.
Findings distinguish documented facts, participant accounts, interpretation and unresolved questions. Missing records are made explicit.
What you receive
Executive Calibration Brief — A concise account of the decision process, supported findings, evidence limitations and matters requiring attention.
Correction Plan — Prioritised actions addressing identified weaknesses, with proposed responsibilities and review points. Where the evidence supports no correction, that conclusion is recorded.
The engagement concludes with delivery and discussion of the findings. Implementation remains with the client.
Scope and limits
This is a professional review of a human decision process. Technical testing of AI systems and regulatory certification fall outside its scope.
The audit does not claim to establish how a person would have decided without AI, or guarantee a better outcome.
Scope, access, confidentiality arrangements, timing and fees are agreed in writing before work begins.
Request an audit conversation
Please describe the decision briefly. Confidential records can be requested through an agreed process after initial discussion.
